The tour was first formulated in January 2008 by Nikki Sixx. Shortly afterwards, the idea of Crüe Fest was then created, with Mötley Crüe’s intention of bringing a new touring festival of ‘bands that embody the spirit of rock and roll’ in the same vein as Ozzfest.

The new official Mötley Crüe website had promised a special announcement on April 15, 2008, where Mötley Crüe hosted a press conference, where the intentions of the Crüe Fest tour were announced and the band premiered their “Saints of Los Angeles” video, as well as performing “Kickstart My Heart” and “Saints of Los Angeles”.
